Will our team need to learn a new system?
No. Box works with standard S3 tools, so your team keeps the software and workflows they already use. There is nothing new to learn.
Where is our data stored?
With Box, and across multiple independent storage providers for backups. Those providers only ever see encrypted data. Your team simply sees one place for all your files.
Is our data encrypted?
Yes, always. Every file is encrypted with AES-256 before it is stored. It’s automatic and cannot be switched off.
Can Box see our data?
Technically yes, because Box holds the keys needed to decrypt and return your files. In practice, our staff have no access to raw customer data. Even when helping with support, we only inspect technical metadata and never view your file contents. For complete privacy, your team can encrypt files before uploading so only you hold the keys.
How reliable is Box?
Service availability is backed by our 99.99% SLA. Data durability is designed for 99.999999999% (eleven nines). That’s an engineering target, not an SLA commitment: our SLA covers availability only.
How do the free downloads work?
Each month, you get a free download allowance of 2× your average stored volume. For example, storing 1,000 GB on average includes 2,000 GB of downloads. Beyond that allowance, downloads cost ฿0.30 per GB. Files that are read often and served from Box’s cache count half toward the allowance and cost ฿0.15 per GB beyond it.
What is the minimum storage charge?
Every file is billed for at least six hours of storage. Billing is based on how much you store and for how long, measured by the hour. The calculator estimates a steady month, so temporary files and changes in usage affect the actual invoice. All prices exclude 7% VAT.
